As the demand for leisure travel continues to even out after a dramatic, post-pandemic surge, industry trends seem to be shifting at unprecedented rates.

American Express’ Global Travel Trends Report from just last year, for example, reflected on the influence that pop culture and social media has had on Gen Z and Millennial travelers (quick trip to Sicily to catch a glimpse of The White Lotus season two hotel, anyone?). But looking ahead to 2024 and beyond: an unplugged, unbothered type of getaway is at the top of the list for travelers.

The "Quiet Life" travel trend, as it’s being called, is increasing in popularity as people seek simplicity and serenity in their hectic lives, with a focus on wellness as the primary driver. According to Pinterest, searches for "quiet places" and "calm places" have surged, reflecting a desire to escape the constant buzz of modern life. An increase in solo trips also ties in to prominent travel themes for the year, including self-discovery and digital detoxing.

Such trends mean people are seeking out lower-key, more remote destinations – whether they’re secluded beaches, tranquil countryside landscapes or dense, rainy forests. According to other reports, “silent travel” is yet another top trend for 2024, the beauty of which is that it's not limited to any one place; from South America to Europe and Asia, seekers of the "Quiet Life” can find somewhere to sit in silence near water, or at least maybe some trees, wherever they seek.
