After a long day, a cocktail (or three) can really hit the spot. But what about for the shorter days, the ones when you actually almost get to inbox zero but not quite?

Sometimes it’s nice to enjoy something smaller than a vacation-sized piña colada and a lot of people are starting to agree.

Shots are on the rise at bars and restaurants across the US and for a wide range of reasons. "Cheekies," as they're known by some industry vets, are showing up everywhere as places think of new ways to create community in their spaces and cleanse guests' palates, according to the New York Times. In fact, these smaller pours actually harken back to pre-prohibition when drinks were significantly smaller than the cocktails of today. Better yet, these mini-drinks are also more affordable and less detrimental to the lightweights in all our lives.
